![]() A real classic though and therefore highly recommended!īack in the late 70's I guess, maybe the early 80's, I read this book and I loved it. Really worth it but at parts a bit tedious. ![]() The novel is about prejudices, the fascination of India, the possibility of reincarnation and psychological topics with a shot of horror. It's rather a philosophical and psychological novel: is reincarnation possible and what about Jung's archetypes? What about religion (great chapter on the crowning of the snowman!)? In my opinion the main character was Janice and to what conclusion she finally stated in court. The characters are absolutely first class. ![]() When Mr Hoover (Audrey Rose's father) kidnaps Ivy we enter a lengthy trial episode (nearly half the book) where the lawyers make their points. We see some eerie scenes with Ivy haunted by never ending nightmares (other girls dreams). ![]() Is the soul of Audrey Rose (died in a terrible car accident together with her mother) really reincarnated in Ivy Templeton? Audrey's father tracked Ivy down and follows the Templeton family until it comes to a confrontation. Iconic classic from the 70s (1975 to be precise) also made into a movie. ![]()

7/4/2023 0 Comments Dating you hating you review![]() Overall I can’t recommend this enough! I give it 4.5 stars (not fully 5 stars, only because I am not sure if I would re-read this anytime soon). I couldn’t believe what a complete and utter sexist asshole their boss was but the ending is perfect. It was nice seeing Carter coming to realisations, like the fact that Evie had to work twice as hard as her male counterparts just to be in the same position. The novel also deals with sexism in the work place and I thought it was very well done. I love how passionate she is about her career. Carter was very sweet but getting into Evie’s head was just so interesting. I haven’t championed this strongly behind a couple for such a long time! Even the realization that they're both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn't enough to smother the flames. ![]() Despite a meet-awkward at a mutual friend's party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. ![]() ![]() Their relationship is just beginning when their firms join and they must not only work together but actually compete for their bosses praises and the same position. A laugh out loud, enemies to lovers romcom about two high-powered agents who learn that all's fair in love and war. They are both Hollywood agents and incredibly busy. The attraction between Evie and Carter is immediate and so believable. ![]() 7/4/2023 0 Comments March book three![]() ![]() ![]() “I look forward to the thought-provoking discussions that March will prompt in our community.”Ī No. ![]() “At a time when our entire campus community is working to affirm our core values of unity and respect, March: Book Three shows us all how looking to the past for guidance can help make changes for good today and in the future,” said Mary Ann Rankin, UMD’s senior vice president and provost. 7/3/2023 0 Comments Hughes the big sea![]() ![]() He believed that they "had as much in their lives to put into books as did those more fortunate." Thus, the black folk idiom, the rhythm and tones of its language and music, was the only choice for Hughes, and he became the poet laureate of the people for one simple reason-he spoke their language. In nearly everything he wrote, and he wrote more than fifty books in every conceivable genre, he sought to capture the complexities of, and pay homage to such people, especially those who were poor or of modest means. I think he hated himself, too, for being a Negro." Unlike his father, early in life Hughes had been seduced by the joie de vivre of a people who simply could have been bitter because their lives were filled with injustice. Hughes wrote in his autobiography The Big Sea (1940) that "my father hated Negroes. Perhaps his determination to affirm, indeed revel in, black culture had something to do with his father's hatred of black people, a sentiment that affected the son profoundly. ![]() In the essay, he argues against blacks seeking integration at the expense of race pride and proclaims that instead "we younger artists who create now intend to express our individual dark-skinned selves without fear or shame," a bold statement for those racially unsettling times that were marked by lynchings and riots. With his essay "The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain" (1926), writer Langston Hughes helped to define the spirit that motivated the Harlem Renaissance, a black cultural movement of the 1920s. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Spiraling out from the great cities of shell that once rose in North America to the warming waters of the Maldives and the slave castles of Ghana, Barnett has created an unforgettable account of the world's most iconic seashells. ![]() In The Sound of the Sea, acclaimed environmental author Cynthia Barnett blends cultural history and science to trace our long love affair with seashells and the hidden lives of the mollusks that make them.
